Experience of a Lifetime!

January 25, 2010

Hey! Sorry I haven't written in so long! After the pageant, I became incredibly busy with sports and school! The Miss Teen Canada World pageant was by far the most amazing experience of my entire life! I met so many amazing people and had so many doors opened up for me! I am proud to say that I was fasttracked into the top 20 of the pageant for being the most photogenic! Then I went on to be in the top 10! Unfortunately, that was the end of the road for me, but I am so proud to have gotten as far as I did! I can't believe it has been almost a year since this whole journey began! In less than a month I return to the Miss Teen Alberta pageant to crown this year's 4th runner up! Good luck to all the girls competing this year! :)

Thank you to everyone for their undying support through my MTC-W journey! Thank you to Michelle and everyone for opening up so many doors for me!

God Bless <3

First Few Days!

July 20, 2009

Hey everyone! Wow I have been so so busy the past few days! On Saturday, Mom and I went to Marineland and Niagra Falls. I can never get over how pretty the Falls always look, during any season or during any kind of weather. We also went to the "Movie Stars" wax museum right down there by the falls. It was pretty cool. They had wax figures of movie stars such as Hannah Montanna (haha), Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, Arnold Swartznegger as The Terminator, Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods (Legally Blonde), Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura Pet Dective, and many others! Most of them looked quite a bit like the people they were supposed to look like haha.

On Saturday evening, Mom and I just relaxed around the Missisauga townhouse we rented. I also got ready to leave the next morning for the official Miss Teen Canada-World host Hotel. Once arriving there in the morning, I was greeted by all the most beautiful girls from across the country. I've made alot of new friends already, and it's only the second day! On that first day, however, we did many things. We were fitted into our opening number outfits and shoes. They are both very cute! After that, we each individually had our hair and makeup professionally done for a photoshoot and video interview, both of which we are being judged on. That evening, we had a welcome dinner that our parents could attend. My mom came! I was glad to see her again. The dinner briefed us on what the week had in store for us.

Then there was today, haha. After getting to sleep at about 1am Toronto time last night (11pm Alberta time), we went to sleep. For 3 hours. Then at 4am Toronto time (2am Alberta time), we woke up to get showered and ready to go to Toronto Breakfast Telivision. It was really fun. We were all on TV! Pretty awesome. After that, we went on a Hippo Tour! For those of you that don't know, there is a thing called a hippo bus. It is a bus that is also a boat and can float and drive in water! Each Hippo Bus costs One Million Dollars! The Hippo bus took us on a nice tour of downtown Toronto, then drove us into Lake Ontario. It was really cool.

After that, we went for lunch on the Danforth! at a place called Omonia. It was delicious. From there, we went to the Pro Makeup School and learned how to properly do "smokey eyes" and got our own custom made MTC-W lipglosses! That was pretty cool. After that, we went on MTV LIVE! It was sooooo cool! We got to meet Nicole from the show and everything! She is super nice! It was so cool being there during the actual live set haha. Then, we went to the Toronto School of Acting and had a very inspirational meeting with Chris Healey!!!!! He was great!

I wish I could write more, but yeah the 3 hours sleep is catching up on me!

Free the Children (Blog Assignment # 3)

July 18, 2009

Community. That is the word that best describes the photo above. Every individual child in that photo is jubliant and some are even jumping for joy. Why, you ask? The children are seen standing infront of a Free the Children school building. Education is what has brought such happiness into these children's lives.

Free the Children is the largest network of children helping children through education. This school was built in a community that is overcome by poverty and other troubles. The children probably have not been this happy in quite some time. Their village probably struggles for basic necessities such as food, water and clothing. They were probably forced to begin work at a very young age.

Thanks to Free the Children, these children now have friends to laugh and play with. They have a building inwhich valuble education is given. They can read books and play games and learn about the world. Their faces express the happiness they feel.

I believe that this picture is the most powerful as it is evidence of the impact that Free the Children is having on children all over the globe.

Toronto!

July 17, 2009
Welcome to Toronto!

Well my Mom and I are safely in Toronto. We had a nice flight with no problems. The townhouse my family is staying in is really nice and has a great view of Lake Ontario! We have SO much luggage, with all my outfits and dresses and my ballet barre for the talent evening. Plus I think we packed something like 20 pairs of shoes?! I'm exagerating, but it's close to that probably haha. Plus we had my mom's bags as well. I got a picture of myself with all the bags....it's quite funny. I will post it soon.

This evening we took a walk and had dinner on the Danforth. I loved it! The Danforth is this cute little strip in Toronto with all sorts of botiques and Greek restaurants. It would be a lovely romantic evening out for some young couple because as the sun is setting, little twinkling lights illuminate all up the street and enchanting music begins to drift out of the shops and cafes.

At the restaurant we ate at (Christina's) they even had a live belly dancer! It was very cool to see and the food was amazing!

Tomorrow I think that Mom and I are going to Niagra falls and Marineland! I'm pretty excited haha. Then Sunday I will be headed to the hotel to meet up with the other contestants and everyone else! I'm SO looking forward to meeting everyone and catching up with the girls from Alberta!

Local Favourites

Camp 30

The Bowmanville POW camp Camp 30 was a Canadian-run POW camp for German soldiers during World War II located in Bowmanville, Ontario. Camp 30 although a part of Canada’s history, now faces demolition and many Bowmanville residents are unwilling to give up a valuable piece of history.

Highway of Heroes

In 2007, the ministry of transportation announced that the stretch of Highway 401 running from Trenton to Toronto (most of Durham region is in between) would bear the additional name Highway of Heroes, in honour of Canada's fallen soldiers. This length of the freeway is often travelled by a procession of vehicles carrying a fallen soldier's body, with his or her family, from Trenton to the coroner's office in Toronto. Crowds from communities along this part of the 401 line the overpasses to pay their respects as convoys pass. It is touching to see the patriotism in my community, as they line up on the overpass with their Canadian flags waving paying their respects to the fallen soldiers and their families.

Historic Downtown Bowmanville

Historic downtown Bowmanville has everything from antiques to designer clothing on a charming main street. With friendly local merchants, and the wide variety of goods and services available, there’s no need to shop any place else.
